Social media: the good, the bad, the..employment opportunities!

Social media are amazing tools for spreading awareness of various causes, free marketing, entertainment, communication, connection, etc. However, there is always the issue of provicy and wanting to conduct and portray yourself in a favorable and appropriate light. This is very important when searching for jobs and networking yourself well!
I have always enjoyed social media on a social level (I tend more towards Instagram, Pinterest, and tumblr), but until recently have not really used it as a job seeking or career networking tool. When I joined Linkedin I started following various companies and connecting with people and have already been presented with great networking opportunities! My new boss actually just told me that she was found by the company owner on LinkedIn!
I love not only being able to see pictures of friends who are far away, follow the latest fashion, stalk my favorite celebrities, blog, network and have career opportunities all through social media. On Apps. On my iPhone.

My DC Home!

I lived in DC for four years as an undergraduate at CUA, however I was always living either on, or very close to campus with several roommates. When I was moving back to DC for graduate school at CUA and living in the Adam's Morgan/Woodley Park area I was ready for more of a culture shock and real city living! Boy did I luck out! My neighborhood has all the benefits of city living such as shops, restaurants, roof top bars, and metro without feeling even slighty scary. Of course, it's still DC and I am more cautious, but my neighborhood is full of friendly families, townhouses, and sunflowers that make you feel comfortable and appreciative of your beautiful surroundings! There is even a neighborhood dog named Romo who hangs out his first floor window every day with his name displayed under the window. Everyone in the neighborhood knows Romo's friendly face! I feel so fortunate to have found my small one bed-room apartment in this lovely little area!

WELCOME!

I just had an experience on the metro and I had to share it as my first blog post! I was sitting on the metro with my CUA MSBA backpack on my lap and the man sitting next to me said: "MSBA? What the heck is that?" I laughed and politely explained it was a Master of Science in Business Analysis and gave him a quick overview of the subjects I was studying. The man replied, "What made you choose this program?" I started by saying it was a one-year program, giving us the opportunity to enter the work force sooner, I had received my undergraduate degree from Catholic... but, as I thought about it more I realized how easy it was to think of how many things I was excited to talk about about! I found myself brandishing the resumes, and real life experience of all of my professors and gloating about my wonderful classmates. Answering this man's question made me realize how much I already liked the program and looked forward to learning from successful entrepreneurs while working with motivated young professionals. I am excited to spread the word about the program and its associated opportunities!
